SELINA Demonstration Projects (DPs) are real-world innovative examples of how knowledge on biodiversity (BD), ecosystems and ecosystem services (ES) can inform and support evidence-based decision-making processes (from projects to plans and policies) in both public and private domains. These applications extend across various sectors, including urban and regional development, agriculture, energy, marine spatial planning, forest and nature conservation, green infrastructures and ecosystem restoration.
Within SELINA, we engage a total of 15 DPs, categorised into two groups - public (a total of 7) and private (a total of 8) DPs. These DPs are further organised into four clusters: i) Agriculture and water; ii) Forestry and finance; iii) Coastal and marine; and iv) Spatial planning.
SELINA Workshop 1: Decision-makers needs
Workshop to engage stakeholders and discuss factors/barriers to implementing biodiversity and ecosystem services in decision-making.
First Task Force meeting of Private Sector representatives
Task Force of Private sector representatives (including DPs) will meet on an annual basis to provide project consultations, input into the development of materials and support the dissemination and uptake of results.
Demonstration Projects kick-off
The fifteen public and private DPs present their work plan and the achieved and expected goals.
Based on the input of the Task Force and the DPs, innovative solutions will be promoted through relevant networks and outlets. Gaps for the uptake of the ES approach and advice for the next steps and scalability of the approach will be provided.
Assessment of effectiveness and lessons learned
Report that analyses ecosystem services evidence to support the policy cycle while drawing lessons for transferability.
Fifth Task Force meeting
Annual Task Force meeting to provide project consultations, input into the development of the private sector materials and support the dissemination and uptake of results.
Solutions for shared private-public use of evidence on ecosystems and ecosystem services
Report that analyses the three hybrid DPs on how to integrate the use of evidence by private/public actors.
