Representatives from the European projects SELINA and BioValue met at the University of Trento on 4 July 2024 to identify and strengthen project synergies.
The Urban Regeneration and Innovation office of the Municipality of Trento presented the transformative pathways for the Trento Arena from BioValue, highlighting the Plan to redevelop the Fersina River. This initiative involves revising current planning instruments to align with new sustainability objectives, among other actions. Within BioValue, the University of Trento leads project design and monitoring, conducting detailed biodiversity and ecosystem services analyses.
Representatives from SELINA's Demonstration Project 03, the Parks and Gardens Office of the Municipality of Trento, also shared progress on the city's Urban Greening Plan. A first draft is expected by autumn, and it will include, among other topics, addressing the urban heat island effect through targeted interventions based on temperature mapping and the regeneration of existing green spaces that respond to the needs of vulnerable communities, including disabled groups.
Both project teams explored several avenues for collaboration, including aligning data analysis, mapping ecosystem services, and identifying common goals.
This collaboration between SELINA and BioValue exemplifies the importance of cross-project synergies in advancing sustainable urban development. By combining expertise and resources from public and scientific partners, these initiatives are set to significantly contribute to creating more liveable, resilient, and environmentally friendly urban spaces in Trento.
