Special Issue on Common lands and ecosystem services was published in Acta Geographica Slovenica
A new Special Issue titled “Common lands, shared futures: The importance of ecosystem services, justice, and sustainability through community land management“, and edited by Daniela Ribeiro, Domingo Lopes and Mateja Šmid Hribar, has been published in Acta Geographica Slovenica.
Within this Special Issue, two articles are directly linked to SELINA’s scientific work and were prepared with the project’s partners.
The Editorial “Common lands, shared futures: The importance of ecosystem services, justice, and sustainability through community land management” by Daniela Ribeiro, Mateja Šmid Hribar and Conor Kretsch addresses an underexplored field through abstract and practical studies on regulating ecosystem services of common lands and explores their part in providing ecosystem services.
“The contribution of common lands to carbon sequestration: A case study from Triglav National Park in Slovenia” by Mateja Šmid Hribar, Daniela Ribeiro and Miguel Villoslada, focuses on how Slovenian common lands managed by agrarian communities provide ecosystem services. As Slovenia’s forests have experienced a decline in carbon sequestration capacity in the past years, better management by private owners and agrarian communities, supported by national and EU funds, is crucial to maintain this important ecosystem service.
Together, these contributions support SELINA’s objectives by providing evidence on the benefits of common lands for people and nature.
