The 5th ESP Europe Conference, themed "Ecosystem Services: One Planet, One Health," and organised by the Foundation for Sustainable Development (FSD) (a partner in SELINA) and the Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) will take place from 18-22 November 2024 in Wageningen, the Netherlands. This conference will refer to how ecosystem services can address the global vision of One Health, emphasising the interdependence of human, animal, plant, and ecosystem health, along with the health of the global environment.
The conference will focus on two main thematic streams: a) Ecosystem services and health, and b) Ecosystem services and conditions for transformative change. These themes align with the overarching conference focus and aim to enhance the positive impacts of ecosystem services research. Additionally, there will be room for session proposals that do not neatly fit into these streams but address relevant topics for the ESP community.
SELINA partners will lead several sessions to present SELINA’s concepts and outcomes, among which:
- A session that explores transformative change within networks, focusing on SELINA’s Communities of Practice. Participants will engage in a workshop to develop actionable strategies for advancing transformative change in ecosystem services.
- A session that will highlight how the SELINA project and other EU initiatives are transforming business models to be nature-positive by incorporating ecosystem services, natural capital, and biodiversity into their decision-making. Business representatives will present their progress and challenges, with main examples from SELINA’s private Demonstration Projects.
- A joint SELINA-BioAgora session is also planned, focusing on making ecosystem services science outcomes applicable for evidence-based decision-making.
More information about these sessions will be available closer to the conference date.
SELINA will have a dedicated booth at the conference to showcase its promotional materials. The booth will be shared with the SpongeBoost project and will also feature materials from relevant open science journals, including One Ecosystem. Also, we are excited to announce that SELINA's best practices in dissemination and communication will be highlighted during a science communication training ("Innovative tools for science communication: How to increase your research impact"), hosted by Pensoft Publishers, a SELINA partner, on 17 November 2024.
Registration for the conference and the trainings is now open. The Early Bird deadline is 15 September 2024. ESP members will receive their discount codes by email. You can find more information and register on the Registration page.
