Exploring best practices for transformative change at the third meeting of the Community of Practice in Italy

The Italian Community of Practice held its third meeting on Monday, 2 December 2024, to explore best practices and identify synergies for fostering transformative change approaches in biodiversity and ecosystem services assessment. The event was attended by twelve participants representing non-profits, private enterprises, academia, and the public sector.

The meeting focused on sharing and analysing innovative best practices, referred to as "Seeds of Change," that diverge from conventional methods. Emphasis was placed on strengthening connections between people and nature, integrating nature-based solutions, and promoting urban biodiversity.

A key aspect of the discussion highlighted the importance of citizen engagement in planning and decision-making processes. This was exemplified through participatory workshops, stakeholder mapping, and the use of innovative tools such as sensors, wearable devices, and surveys to actively involve communities and collect valuable data.

The need for sustainable, long-term impacts was also addressed, with a focus on ecological monitoring and economic assessments to guide climate resilience strategies. The presented practices underscored the importance of developing tools and guides to effectively integrate transformative change into decision-making processes.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to developing a strategic plan for 2025, which will be shared with participants in the near future. This plan will build on the insights and interests expressed during previous meetings.
